Working smarter to achieve life balance and abundance

What if our work life is broken? We pay a lot of attention to working hard and forget about everything else. The way we work has changed, we are no longer trying to survive in the wild, instead, we are using our brains. What if the way we work today is based on an outdated belief? And instead, working smarter to achieve life balance and abundance is what we should focus on.
The longer hours we work, the more money we will get. Or if that is not what we are aiming for, we will at least be looked upon as great employees. Am I wrong if I´m claiming that we tend to greatly value working long hours? It is in some way seen as a measure of us being valued and respected people.
Where might these beliefs come from?
I have found this set of beliefs very interesting and have pondered back and forth about it, for the fun of it. Due to my background in ethnology, I tend to trace our beliefs back to cultural schemes and rules we are brought up with and blindly believe in. Without questioning why we have a specific set of beliefs or even understanding they are always optional.
Wouldn´t it be exciting to think that some of our deep-rooted patterns of thoughts are false? What if our thoughts about us being valued and respected as people, depending on the number of hours we work, are old and belong in history.
What about if those patterns of thoughts are more applicable in rural times. In a time period when working hard with chores was linked to surviving. I mean, the more you accomplish, the better the outcome. If you didn´t feel like milking the cows, they would get ill, if you didn´t prepare for the winter and get some hay your animals would die… and so on… Summing it up, the harder you worked, the better the outcome.
“My conclusion would be that in today´s world working hard may sometimes help but working smarter will make you abundant in every aspect. “
Life balance, abundance and working smarter
Working smarter is about making more value, instead of putting in more hours. Opposite to how we actually tend to think and act, right?
By using the number of hours we put on work, as a measure of our worth as people, we are getting it wrong. Focusing too much on one area of life is going to soak energy from the other areas also important. In the end, a balanced life is a prosperous life.
In my opinion abundance in life should be comprehended as something holistic. Many times we think about abundance from a money perspective. But even if the abundance of money can make life easier it will not make us content in the long run. What makes life more abundant in the big picture, is life balance. This is why we should work smarter to achieve life balance and abundance.
Where and how to begin
So, how can we find life balance, work smarter, create value, have abundance and make a better income for ourselves and the company we work for? The answer is easy (yes, I´m provoking you a bit). Become aware of your personal values. What is important for you and why? Where are these values coming from and do you still want to believe in them?
Focus on how you work, make it completely clear what your priorities are. Really set aside some time to figure this out. Notice what you spend your time on, does it serve you and is it giving you the right outcome?
Or, you could get yourself a coach who will help you along the way. Getting there will surely take some effort but to realize what serves you and what doesn´t is always the first step on the path to change Let´s work smarter to achieve life balance and abundance.
